I used to volunteer here. Yes, there are better museums out there but considering that this one is free, you're getting a good deal. You can learn about the history of Iowa and the Midwest, and they have a few different changing exhibits throughout the year. Definitely worth stopping by for an hour or so if you haven't been here before.
Museum great, Cafe Experience was rough.
Nice place to learn about Iowa history and it's free which is nice too. Was able to find metered parking nearby quite easily.
We were welcomed warmly & spent a little over an hour looking through all 3 stories. So interesting, wish we could've stayed longer!
My wife and her parents and our 21 month old daughter visited today. We want to have lunch in the museum cafe but we were turned away because we brought a tiny lunch box for my little girl since she's needing to eat certain things to keep her calorie intake high. She's 3rd percentile for weight so it's important. The four of us were going to order food that would have totaled around $50. But because we "brought in outside food" we were turned away. Frustrating. I had just topped off our parking meter for two hours so we could see the rest of the museum but we had to leave and go somewhere else to eat.
Pretty cool but so bare anymore and they scaled it down to half the building
