Interesting store! I disagree with some of their policies on the frequency and what to feed reptiles, but they are very knowledgeable overall. The reptiles are well cared for, and it shows. I also disagree with the way that they keep their small animals and fish, but overall, I would not hesitate to spend my hard earned money here.
Lots of interesting pets; could definitely take better care of the mammals. I know they poop constantly, but you have an obligation to keep their cages at least moderately clean and make sure they have water. The later issue is even more egregious. Most of the mammals were out of water. I would chalk it up to bad timing, but too many others commenting on the same. Also, there were many dead fish and aquarium's with 1/4 to 1/2 of water evaporated, suggesting inconsistent water change intervals.
I took my daughter in yesterday to window shop for s bird. We found one and asked to put it on hold until the next day. The lady was really kind and answered all of our questions and said she would hold for two days. We came back the next day to find the bird sold. The guy couldn't have cared less. We were prepared to spend $100 plus for our first set up. Oh well, Petco here we come. Also it's very dirty and smelly.
Excellent store for reptiles, birds, small animals, and fish. Offers both pets and everything for their care. What's there is honest, useful and reliable products. The animals are healthy. One of the few pet stores that offers a real variety of pets at a reasonable price.
The employees generally are knowledgeable and helpful. The displays are older and the store is a bit crowded, which can be off putting on a first visit. Ask! They will help find what you need and later visits are much less confusing.
I’ve been coming to this store since I was a little girl with my dad for fish. Now that have a bearded dragon and the staff here has been so great in helping understand how to take good care of him. This is a Des Moines staple and I definitely recommend it to everyone!
