Filed an amended 2016 income tax return the first week of May 2016. We have been patiently waiting for our refund ever since. We had our accountant call your office to find out what the status of the refund was & he was told it was being processed a couple weeks ago and we could expect our refund in 7-12 days. Still no refund as of 8/23/16. Called your office and I am now being told that it will take approximately 4-6 weeks because of a processing delay. I should be receiving interest on the refund amount because of this long delay. Seems like some changes need to be made in the Department of Revenue to ensure that taxpayers are getting their refunds in a timely manner. Totally unacceptable!!!
Wow, after reading all the other comments about the Iowa Department of Revenue, it doesn't surprise me others have experienced terrible service. The staff is very rude, they are crooks. Why do I pay taxes all year to the state only to have to pay another $200 at tax time. They charge late fees and harass you at any cost. I hope all the employees there experience their children getting cancer. All the employees are worthless pieces of trash. They are corrupt people who just take money as they please.
I wish I can give them 0. I received a notice after about 2 years I had moved from Iowa that I am owing $181.00 from a FEDERAL TAX RETURN - not even from my income - but from the returns I received from the federal government. Yes, they do tax whatever you get from the federal government. Stay away from this state. I see their actions as extortion.
After living in Iowa for fraction of a year, I got audited and asked to pay an extra 2,000. Now living across the country, I hired an Iowa based CPA to re-do my taxes from that year completely to catch anything I missed and to correct it. I promptly paid the difference (that was due to an honest mistake) and heard nothing from Iowa for YEARS. Now I get a notice in the mail that I owe two hundred dollars more (four years after the fact). I feel like these people don't know what they are doing, and they are nickel and diming the public. So unfortunate. I loved living in Iowa, but I will NEVER move back because of this ridiculous experience. I hope the two hundred bucks is worth it, Iowa.
I love the Iowa Department of Revenue. I'm not from Iowa so they don't take any of my money. Thanks, Guys!
